I am a self-taught, natural artist. I've been 'doing art' since I could hold a pencil or crayon (love those big boxes of crayons).
My mother and sister are both artists, not currently working as such, and I have a nephew in California making a great living with his talent. Art is in my genes and I believe it is a talent that was given to me for a reason, to share.
I was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the subject matter in that area is wonderful. Twenty plus years ago I transplanted to North Carolina am finding the subjects here are beautiful also. My preferred subject is of nature, animals, wild or domestic, landscapes and flowers. My love of nature has given me a wide variety of things to paint or draw.
The only 'art' classes I had were in normal schooling, I saw no reason to go to college and have to take classes I was not interested in such as math. I've learned more by taking pictures and observing wildlife than I ever got from classes, the exception being the one teacher that taught me to not be afraid of the dark, in relation to shadows. I do my best work in pencil or charcoal because it allows me to get a lot of detail. Oils and watercolor are good too and I am stretching my imagination and talents. Currently being a resident of NC I've found landscapes a challenge because you truly can't see past the trees, which is very different form NM where you can see forever, here, not so much.
